Johnston schools salute first-year teachers

The Johnston County school system has named its Outstanding First Year Teacher of the Year for 2013-2014. She is Jennifer Loman, who teaches math at South Johnston High School.

Loman receive a plaque and $500.

South Johnston Principal Eddie Price said Loman uses interactive lessons to keep her students engaged, and she gives her students multiple opportunities each week to receive tutoring and complete missing assignments. Also, Loman builds relationships with her students, often helping them set goals, Price added.

“Ms. Loman is truly an outstanding teacher,” he said.

Other finalists for the award were Kenneth Turner of Cleveland Middle School and Dani Yarborough of Selma Elementary. Each received a plaque and $250.
