Pirates hand Triton its first league loss

Corinth Holders upset Two Rivers 3A Conference leader Triton 3-0 on Wednesday afternoon behind a complete-game shutout effort from Kayla Meares. Meares limited the Hawks, who took their first conference loss this season, to six hits, struck out eight and issued one walk.

The Pirates took control of the game with a three-run sixth inning. Meares, Kayla Narron and Summer Long scored in the inning. Narron, Carrie Corbett, Holly Price and Meares singled in the game for Corinth Holders. Long tripled in the sixth.

Corinth Holders sweeps conference track meet wins

Corinth Holders’ track and field teams swept a three-team Two Rivers 3A Conference meet with South Johnston and Smithfield-Selma on Tuesday. The Pirate girls rolled up 112 points, way ahead of SSS (25) and South (23). Corinth Holders coach Peter Clark singled out the performances of Kayla St. Marie, Megan Chappell, Marie Pickett and Katie Honeycutt (3,200 meters winner) as keys.

The Pirate boys, led by Kendrick Cobb, Sadavion Dixon, ISaac Dowless and Patrick Myers finished with 94 points. SSS had 41 points and South totaled 35.

Central wins in GNRC golf again

Harnett Central won its sixth straight Greater Neuse River 4A Conference boys golf match Tuesday with a 13-stroke victory at Reedy Creek Golf Course. West Johnston was second (335) and Garner took third (350). Clayton was fourth at 368.

Central’s Jacob Lowe and Rolesville’s Blake McShea shared medalist honors with 76s.

Garner’s Matteo Ceyrolles finished at 79; David Chavis and Brice Connors both shot 81 for West. Clayton’s Matt King and Alex Owens both turned in 85s for Clayton.
