A fish fry is scheduled for 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 28, at St. Ann Catholic Church, 4057 U.C. 70 Business West between Smithfield and Clayton. The cost is $8 and includes fried fish, boiled potatoes, hush puppies, coleslaw, dessert and drink.

Plates of barbecued pork and chicken will be on sale from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, March 21, at Elizabeth United Methodist Church, 4269 Cleveland Road, Smithfield. The cost is $8 per plate and includes two sides and a dessert. Takeout will be available.

Separately, Elizabeth Church is seeking vendors for its Bingo and Bazaar event on Saturday, May 3. Spaces are $25. To reserve a spot, email Holly Lucas at or call her 919-300-1552. The rain date is May 10.

Gospel music

The Faith Singers will perform at 6 p.m. Sunday, March 30, at Friendship Free Will Baptist Church, 758 Friendship Church Road, Middlesex.

Church launching preschool

This fall, Bethesda Baptist Church near Clayton will open WEE Ones, a preschool for children from age 2 to pre-kindergarten. WEE is short for Weekday Early Education. The preschool will operate from 9:15 a.m. to 1 p..m. weekdays. To learn more, call 919-907-0933, email or visit

For young people

A youth choir workshop is scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 12, at Bentonville Disciples of Christ Church, 8566 Devil’s Racetrack Road, Four Oaks. A performance will follow at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 13. The workshop cost is $8 in advance and $10 at the door. The church will serve lunch. For more information, call 919-585-6132.

Burnell Baptist Church will celebrate Friends & Family Day on Sunday, March 30, at the church, 3720 Old School Road, Four Oaks. The Watchman Quartet will sing at 9:45 a.m. A covered-dish lunch will follow the 11 a.m. worship service. For more information, call 919-894-1418.
