Volunteers needed

Christ Community United Methodist Church will feed the hungry from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 8, at the church, 1082 Amelia Church Road, Clayton. The church needs volunteers the night before to organize the distribution. To help out, email


A pancake and sausage supper is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 7, at Blackman’s Grove Baptist Church, 6793 Strickland’s Crossroads Road, Four Oaks. The cost is $5. A cake auction will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Sanders Chapel United Methodist Church will sell plates of barbecued chicken from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, March 7, at the Pomona Creech Community Building on Brogden Road five miles east of Smithfield. The cost is $7 per plate.

Gospel music

A Songfest is scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday, March 9, at Green Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 2861 Brogden Road, Smithfield.

For older adults

The JOY Connection of First Presbyterian Church in Smithfield will meet at noon Thursday, March 6, at the church, 215 S. Third St. Bill Sharek will talk about Johnston County Industries. The meeting includes a free meal. To sign up, call 919-934-0988.

Golf tournament

A golf tournament to benefit Baker’s Chapel Ministries will tee off at 1 p.m. Friday, May 23, at the Cardinal Country Club, 363 Parrish Memorial Road, Selma. Registration will begin at noon; a reception will follow the completion of play. For more information, call Elaine Mozingo at 919-989-7615.

Programs, services

Revival services are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. March 10-14 at Mt. Livingstone United Holy Church, 403 Ethel St., Selma. Bishop Harry Lee will speak.

A World Day of Prayer service is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday, March 7, at First Presbyterian Church, 215 S. Third St., Smithfield. The theme is “Streams in the Desert – Egypt.” Refreshments with “A Taste of Egypt” will follow.

Pine Level Pentecostal Holiness Church has added a Sunday evening worship service. It’s at 6 p.m. at the church, 112 E. Blanche St., Pine Level. For more information, call 919-965-3545.

Good Samaritan United Church of Christ has begun meeting at Kid’s Clubhouse, 72 Coats Commercial Drive in the Cleveland community. Joyful Noise, a service for families with young children, meets at 9 a.m. A fellowship hour follows. A traditional worship service begins at 10:30 a.m. For more information, call the Rev.
