Brittany Bucklin

February 7, 2014

Brittany Bucklin signs with Meredith College with her parents (seated) Ricky and Julia Bucklin, (standing, from left) Wayne County Hurricanes coach Mark McCollum, Cleveland softball coach Samantha Coats, principal Anne Meredith, former Cleveland coach John Wood and athletic director Jamie Lee.

Parents: Ricky and Julia Bucklin

High School: Cleveland

Travel Team: Wayne County Hurricanes

Positions: 3B, Pitcher

Why Meredith? “I liked the small sized school and the campus. The class sizes were ideal and the way the coaches and players worked so well together.”

Also Considered: UNC Wilmington, Coastal Carolina

Major: Veterinary Medicine

Notable: Brittany has done a little bit of it all for Cleveland’s softball team, playing third base, pitching and catching. She played mainly third base in travel ball and will likely do the same at Meredith although the possibility of pitching is there as well. … She prefers third. “I like that you have to be on your toes and quick to play there,” Brittany said. “You have to react quickly on every play.” … Knowing that, she wants to improve her quickness defensively. … One of her most memorable games at Cleveland was the Rams’ victory over C.B. Aycock last season.
