Book club hears woman’s life story

The Felicia Book Club met Nov. 6 at Sherry’s Cheescakes on Main Street in Clayton.

Club members heard from Je Krayam, a member of the Montagnard tribe in Vietnam. She told her life story, from living in the jungle to moving to the Philippines and then to Greensboro before finally settling in Clayton.

The club’s next meeting will be Dec. 4 at The Clayton Center, 111 E. Second St., Clayton.

Optimists hear account manager

The South Johnston Optimist Club in October heard from guest speaker Kris Romito of Benson, an account manager at One Main Financial in Selma.

The focus of the meeting was “How can we stay positive and optimistic in today’s world?” Romito talked about the Optimist Creed as a guide in teaching children positive values.

Halcyon book club learns about quilting

The Halcyon Book Club met Nov. 20 at the Morning Glory Inn. Dorothy Nemy, mother of program chairwoman Dr. Joan Meehan-Colatuno, presented the program, “Treasures from the Mountains.” The program, focusing on quilting, showcased some of Nemy’s work.

Newcomers to hold holiday party

The Clayton Newcomers & Neighbors Club will hold its holiday party from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, in the Portofino subdivision. The cost is $12.50 for members and $10 for guests. Bring an appetizer, side dish or dessert to share, plus a beverage. For reservations, make a check payable to the Clayton Newcomers & Neighbors and mail it to Margo Sauter, 146 Dunmore Drive, Clayton, NC 27527. The deadline for reservations is Sunday, Dec. 8.
