Smithfield

The Smithfield Parks and Recreation Department has scheduled the following events and classes. For more information, or to participate, call 919-934-1408.

Soap Making for Kids – 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, at Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center, 600 E. Booker Dairy Road, Smithfield. The class is for children age 5-10. The fee is $15.

Kids in Nature, a program for children ages 3-5, meets from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Wednesdays at the Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center, 600 Booker Dairy Road, Smithfield. Register no later than the Monday before the Wednesday session. The cost is $4 for Smithfield residents and $6 for nonresidents. For more information, call 919-934-2148.

The Smithfield Parks and Recreation Department offers a Wellness Walk at 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays at Community Park, 700 Booker Dairy Road. The group meets at the picnic shelter. For more information, call David Moore at 336-403-7348 or Corn Robertson at 919-802-3136.

The Smithfield Parks and Recreation Department offers Senior Coffee Corner every Tuesday and Thursday morning at the Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center, 600 E. Booker Dairy Road. The gathering, for adults ages 55 and older, offers free coffee, occasional breakfast treats and brain teasers. The Smithfield Parks and Recreation Department invites beginning and seasoned runners to join the River Rats Running Club, which meets at 6:30 p.m. Thursdays at the large picnic shelter in Community Park, 700 E. Clayton

The Clayton Parks and Recreation Department has scheduled the following classes at the Clayton Community Center, 715 Amelia Church Road, Clayton. Call 919-553-1550 for more information.

Beginning shag dancing – A new class will begin Jan. 8, and will meet from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays for four weeks. The cost is $40 per person.

Belly dancing – A new session will begin Jan. 7 and will meet from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays for eight weeks. The cost is $25 for residents, $40 for non-residents.

Vinyasa yoga – A new session will begin Jan. 8 and will meet from 9 to 10 a.m. Fridays or 10:15 to 11:15 a.m. Saturdays for six weeks. The cost is $20 for residents, $35 for non-residents.
