The Country Music Showcase at Johnston Community College will present A Carolina Christmas at 7 p.m. Dec. 6 and 2 and 7 p.m. Dec. 7 in the Paul A. Breakfast with Santa
The 50-210 Fire Department will serve Breakfast with Santa from 7 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at Highway 55 Burgers, Shakes & Fries, 152 Bratton Drive in the Cleveland community. The breakfast costs $5, with proceeds going to the American Cancer Society.
Calls from Santa
The Selma Parks and Recreation Department is providing a direct line to the North Pole. From 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 9, Santa Claus will call children to hear their Christmas wishes. The calls are free, but registration is required by Friday, Dec. 6. For more information, call 919-975-1411.
Christmas in Clayton
Christmas in Clayton is scheduled from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, in Neuse Colony and Neuse Colony Estates subdivisions. Artists will sell their works in homes decorated for the holidays. Musicians and Christmas carolers will performs. On the day of the tour, tickets will be available at the entrances to the two subdivisions.
A 4-H Merry Market is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Johnston Country Agricultural Center, 2736 N.C. 210, Smithfield. More than 40 vendors will offer items, including crafts. Also, the event will offer pony rides, Fraser fir wreaths, hot soup and sandwiches. For more information, call 919-989-5380.
Christmas at the SRAC
The Smithfield Recreation and Acquatics will host a couple of holiday-themed events. The SRAC is at 600 E. Booker Dairy Road.
• Swim with Santa is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6. Santa will be on hand to hear Christmas wishes. Admission is free to SRAC members. For all others, its $5.
• The SRAC invites children ages 6-15 to make a Christmas Mouse ornament from 9 a..m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 14. The cost is $15. To register, call 919-934-1408 no later than Thursday, Dec. 12.
Festival of Trees
The 10th annual Festival of Trees will open at 9 a.m. Friday, Dec. 6, at the Johnston Medical Mall, 514 N. Bright Leaf Blvd., Smithfield.
The annual event will run through Saturday, Dec. 14. This years theme is A Merry Christmas to All.
The festival is a display of 55 Christmas trees sponsored by businesses and decorated by individuals and groups. Performances by school and church choirs, soloists and other musical and dance groups take place throughout the festival. Admission is free.
The festival is a project of Keep Johnston County Beautiful. At noon on Saturday, Dec. 14, Keep Johnston Beautiful will raffle a Christmas tree decorated by Smithfield City Florist. Raffle tickets, at $1 each, will be available from greeters at the festival.
A cookie-baking contest will take place at 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 9. Volunteer judges will name the best-tasting cookie and best-decorated cookie in divisions for adults and children. Winners will receive cash prizes. The entry form is available on the Festival of Trees website, jcfestivaloftrees.com. The deadline to enter is Monday, Nov. 25.
The festival will also collect nonperishable foods for local pantries.
Home for the Holidays
Carolina Music Showcase and the Benson Foundation for the Arts will present Home for the Holidays, a Christmas show, through Nov. 24 in the W.J. Barefoot Auditorium, 303 E. Church St., Benson.
