The choirs of Sharon Baptist and Bethesda Baptist churches will present “Lord of Glory,” a Christmas cantata, at 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, at Sharon Baptist, 116 Britt St., Smithfield. A second performance is scheduled for 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, at Bethesda, 4967 U.S. 70 Business between Clayton and Smithfield.

The choir of Wilson’s Mills Baptist Church will present “Christ Was Born for This,” a Christmas cantata, at 7 p.m. Dec. 6 and 10:30 a.m. Dec. 8 at the church, 652 Swift Creek Road near Wilson’s Mills.

Clothing giveaway

Red Hill United Church of Christ will give away clothing and household items from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, at the church, 10412 Buffalo Road, Clayton. For more information, call 919-989-5902.

Four Seasons Tea

Mitchener Memorial Baptist Church’s Missionary Circle will host a Four Seasons Tea at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, at 911 Blount St., Smithfield.

Fall fundraisers

Pine Level First United Methodist Church is taking orders for grilled hams and turkeys. They’re $40 and will be available for pickup between 4 and 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27, at the Town Market, 1700 U.S. 70-A, Pine Level. To place an order, call the Town Market at 919-965-5271. A bake sale will begin at 8 a.m. that day.


“Gospel Explosion, a day of praise and worship music, is scheduled for 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, at Perpetual Covenant Fellowship Ministries, 800 McKay Place, Lillington. The church invites choirs, Christian music groups and soloists to perform. For more information, call 919-793-8495.

Programs, services

A Thanksgiving Day worship service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 28, at Wesley Chapel AME Church, 867 Cleveland Road, Smithfield.

The JOY Connection will meet at noon Thursday, Dec. 5, at First Presbyterian Church, 215 S. Third St., Smithfield. A lunch will be held, along with the singing of Christmas carols. For more information or to reserve a place, call 919-934-0988.

Awana, a program designed to develop spiritually strong children, meets from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. Wednesdays at Bethesda Baptist Church, 4967 U.S. 70 Business West between Clayton and Smithfield. Awana is for children from 2 years old to fifth grade. For more information or to register, visit

Edgerton Memorial United Methodist Church in Selma has resumed its Mother’s Morning Out program. The free program cares for children ages 3-5 while their moms run errands, clean house, go to appointments or simply take a break. It offers activities, stories, music, playtime and Bible lessons.
