Cleveland explodes in second half

Cleveland scored all four of its goals in the second half and topped Eastern Alamance 4-2 in the opening round of the 3A boys soccer playoffs Wednesday night.

Jhavonte Moon and Federico Planchon both scored two goals each for the Rams (9-10-1), who met Fayetteville Terry Sanford (21-1-1) in the second round of the playoffs. Gio Solis and Brett Koehmstedt each had an assist in the win.

“In the first half, it just seemed like both teams were feeling each other out – playoff jitters I guess,” said Cleveland coach Fabrizio Bonilla. “Both teams had opportunites but couldn’t capitalize on anything. In the second half, we settled down, possessed and spread the field and got two quick scores.”

Eastern rallied to tie the match but Cleveland had two answers for those goals: the go-ahead goal on Koehmstedt’s feed to Moon, the second from Planchon unassisted.
