School leaders say thanks
The N.C. General Assembly recently passed the 2013-2015 state budget. The budget bill passed with wording that would have been devastating to the public schools of Johnston County.
Even though this bill impacts counties statewide, in essence, two words changed in the budget bill would have cost our school district in excess of $11 million.
Once our school district’s personnel realized the wording in the bill had been changed, a call was quickly placed to Rep. J.H. Langdon. This call took place within hours prior to the close of the legislative session. Rep. Langdon’s staff verified our concern, and immediate action was taken to rectify the problem by including clarifying language in the technical-corrections bill. This action, along with the majority vote, saved the funds and benefited our students.
On behalf of the children of Johnston County, we would like to thank our entire delegation for supporting the change in the budget bill. The Johnston delegation includes Sen. Brent Jackson, Sen. B.S. “Buck” Newton, Ronald Rabin and Leo Daughtry. Also, a special thanks goes out to Rep. LH. Langdon for his continual support of public education by being an advocate for the public schools of Johnston County.
