A grateful public says thanks
The people of Johnston County were recently privileged to have a special event organized by our registrar of deeds, Craig Olive.
In an effort to prevent the ever-increasing crime of identity theft, Mr. Olive obtained several sponsors who agreed to bring a paper-shredding truck to Smithfield on a Saturday morning. The public response was overwhelming. The crowd of us who carried bags, boxes and baskets of personal papers to be shredded in a matter of minutes spent hours in the hot July sun (as did Mr. Olive and his assistants), in a clear demonstration of the need for this particular service.
We remain grateful for this service and for those sponsors who provided the resources to assist Mr. Olive and his staff in this most worthy cause. Perhaps with additional business participation, we may look forward to similar, more frequent such sessions.
