Senior attends Girls State
Jenna Burrell, a rising senior at Clayton High, attended the 74th session of Tar Heels Girls State, which was held June 9-15 at Catawba College in Salisbury. She is the daughter of Daniel and Lynn Burrell of Clayton.
The week-long program looks at the structure and operation of North Carolina state government.
Student serves as page
Garrett Lee, a student at Cleveland High School, served as a page recently in the N.C. House of Representatives. He is the son of Donald and Laura Lee of Smithfield. His sponsor was state Rep. James H. Langdon Jr.
Pages help deliver bills and amendments for representatives during daily House sessions and committee meetings.
Air Force trains Radames Leon
Air Force Airman 1st Class Radames Leon has graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland. He is the son of Heidi Jo Ayala Rolon of Puerto Rico.
The eight-week program included training in military discipline and studies, the Air Forces core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills. Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associates degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
Leon is a 2005 graduate of West Johnston High School.
Toastmasters elect offices
The Clayton Area Toastmasters have elected officers for 2013-14. They are Don Craig, president; Jati Jaijee, vice president of education; David Warner, vice president of membership; Cindy Draughon, vice president of public relations; Renee Myatt, secretary and treasurer; and Charles Gaiser, sergeant-at-arms.
The group meets from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursdays at the Workforce Development Center, 135 Bestwood Drive, Clayton.
