American music – Matt Poore and Larry King will perform an eclectic mix of American music at 2 p.m. Friday, July 12. Registration is not required.
Needle art – Members of the American Needlepoint Guild and the Embroiderer’s Guild of America will discuss the art of needlework at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 20. The program is for ages 16 and older.
Screenwriting – Ellen J. Shepard, assistant professor of film at St. Augustine University, will discuss the art of screenplay writing at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 30. The program is for ages 16 and older.
Music for lunch
This summer’s “Music for the Lunch Bunch” will continue at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, July 10, at First Presbyterian Church, 215 S. Third St., Smithfield. Violist Thomas Howerton will perform.

Romance writer Lauren Boyd will sign copies of her debut novel, “Baking Love,” from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday, July 14, at Pauper’s Books and More, 11731 U.S. 70 Business, Clayton.
A pottery camp for children ages 8-15 is scheduled for 9 a.m. to noon July 15-18 at the Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center, 600 E. Booker Dairy Road, Smithfield. The cost is $85 for Smithfield residents and $100 for nonresidents. The materials fee is $20.

Johnston Chorale seeking voices
