Financial-crimes prosecutor Thomas Mitchell Garrell has joined the Johnston County District Attorney’s Office. He is one of four regional financial-crimes prosecutors in North Carolina.
Garrell is based in Johnston County, but he is responsible for prosecuting financial crimes in a total of 20 counties.
In November 2012, the N.C. Conference of District Attorneys started the Financial Crimes Initiative, which now has five team members – a white-collar-crime resource prosecutor and four financial-crimes prosecutors. Financial crimes are often highly complex, involve large volumes of documents and require a focused approach, prosecutors say.
“We are very fortunate to have Mitchell join our team,” said Johnston District Attorney Susan Doyle.
“He has been a prosecutor for over 15 years and has prosecuted every type of case. That wealth of experience will serve him well as he tackles these very difficult financial-crimes cases.”
