It’s not too late to enroll in summer enrichment programs at Johnston Community College. Activities focus on the arts, sciences, critical thinking and academic enrichment.
Quality, affordable programs are scheduled June 17-Aug. 16 for students in grades 3-12. For registration information or questions, call 919-464-2421. Here are camps with openings:
Camp Impact – 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 17-21 at the Cleveland Center, 9046 Cleveland Road in the Cleveland community. The camp is for young people ages 10-14 and costs $75. The camp will feature art activities, outdoor games and speakers on topics such as fire safety and pet care.
Eco Adventures – 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 24-27 at the Johnston Community College Arboretum. The camp is open to children ages 8-12 and costs $175. Participants will learn about plants, animals and nature habitats.
Bad to the Bones: CSI Camp – 8 a.m. to noon June 24-27 on main JCC campus in Smithfield. The camp is open to young people ages 12-18 and costs $125. Students will learn how to process a crime scene and take part in an archaeological dig.
Babysitting Safety Course – 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 12 at the Cleveland Center. The class is for young people ages 12-18 and costs $60. Participants will learn how to care for children and how to handle emergencies while earning CPR certification.
S.T.E.M. Stars – 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 15-18 at the Johnston County Workforce Development Center, 135 Bestwood Drive, Clayton. The camp is open to children ages 12-18 and costs $175. Participants will explore science, technology, engineering and math.
I Love Art – Two sessions will run from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m. July 15-19 at the Cleveland Center. Group one is for children ages 8-12; group two is for ages 12-18. The camp costs $100, or $180 for both sessions. Participants will learn to draw, paint, sculpt, scrapbook and sketch.
Real Guitar Hero – 8 a.m. to noon July 22-Aug. 2 at the Cleveland Center. The class is for young people ages 12-16 and costs $125. Participants will learn to play the guitar. Acoustic guitar is preferred, but electric guitars are allowed with an amp and headphones. Participants must bring their own guitar, and additional book charges might apply.
School Success – 8 a.m. to noon Aug. 12-16 at the Cleveland Center. The camp is for students ages 11-18 and costs $75. The program is for students who need study tips, test-taking strategies and more.
