Golf tournament to benefit Wounded Warrior Project

The Wounded Hero Golf Classic will be held March 30 at Riverwood Golf Course. The captain’s-choice event begins with a 1 p.m. shotgun start and includes dinner and prize eligibility. The entry fee is $50 per person. All proceeds will benefit the Wounded Warrior Project. The tournament is the senior project of Corinth Holders High School student Becca Wilkins. Mudcats National Anthem tryouts are March 23

The Carolina Mudcats will be hosting National Anthem tryouts at 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, inside Five County Stadium. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. on the third base side of the stadium. Tryouts end at noon. All singers, including solo and groups, wanting to sing "The Star Spangled Banner" must tryout on this date, including those who have sang in years past. Johnston Rotary Golf Classic

The 24th annual Four Oaks Bank Rotary Golf Classic presented by Chick-fil-A will be held April 19 at the Country Club of Johnston County. The four-person superball event begins with a noon start. Proceeds from the event fund scholarships for Johnston County students presented by the Rotary Club of Central Johnston County. Pre- and post-round meals will be served and prizes awarded to the top finishing teams and other individual awards. Johnston Horse Show Series

The Johnston County Horse Shoe Series events will be held March 23, April 20, May 25, June 29, Aug. 3-4 (at Hunt Horse Complex), Sept. 21, Oct. 26 and Nov. 23 at the Johnston County Livestock Arena in Smithfield. N.C. Team Tournament Bass Trail

The Boats Unlimited N.C. Team Tournament Bass Trail is open for the spring season. There will be seven events and a championship event on June 22 at Falls Lake. Two-On-Two Basketball Tournament

Archer Lodge announces youth baseball leagues

The Archer Lodge Community Center will offer spring T-Ball, coach-pitch and baseball leagues beginning in April. T-Ball for ages 4-5 will be held on Saturday mornings and will cost $40 per player. The focus is on the basics of the game and sportsmanship. There will be seven players per team. T-Ball for ages 5-6 will be played Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:15 p.m. and Saturday mornings. The program expands on hitting, throwing and catching techniques but remains strictly hitting off of the tee. There will be as many as 10 players per team. The cost is $40 per player. Coach-pitch is for ages 7-8 and will be played on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:15 p.m. and Saturday mornings. There will be as many as 12 players per teams and features parent volunteers for umpires. The cost is $50 per player. Baseball (with kids pitching) for ages 9-10 will be played Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:15 p.m. and Saturday mornings or early afternoons. Local basketball camp scholarships offered

Wake Electric is accepting applications from middle-school students for scholarships to summer basketball camps on two of the state’s largest campuses: the Kellie Harper Basketball Academy at N.C. State (Aug. 1-4) and the Roy Williams Basketball Camp at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (June 15-19) through March 29. Students entering sixth, seventh and eighth grade are eligible to apply. Applicants sponsored by Wake Electric must live in Wake, Durham, Johnston, Vance, Granville, Nash or Franklin counties but do not have to live in households served by Wake Electric in order to win.
