Middle school Spelling Bee competition set for Monday, March 11

The Johnston County Middle School Spelling Bee is Monday, March 11 at 6 p.m. at Selma Elementary School. Fourteen students who won their school bees will compete for the chance to represent Johnston County at the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C. in May.

The spellers are Peyton LaBonte, Archer Lodge Middle; Venice Taylor, Benson Middle; Siara Lusk, Clayton Middle; Morgan Barnes, Cleveland Middle; Yanet Aguilar, Four Oaks Middle; Sienna Hocutt, Johnston County Homeschoolers; Spencer Cox, McGee’s Crossroads Middle; Zachary Norris, Meadow School; Jessica Baker, North Johnston Middle; Rocio Chiguil-Reyes, Princeton Middle; Geraint Jennens-Cheong, Riverwood Middle; Chris Adams, Selma Middle; Nayeli Rubio, Smithfield Middle; and Jesse Stephenson, Southside Christian.

The Johnston County Spelling Bee is sponsored by the Smithfield Herald, Clayton Rotary Club, Four Oaks Bank, JCF Construction – Ronnie Jacobs, Carroll Pharmacy, Blackley’s Printing and Chick-Fil-A. The spelling bee is free and open to the public.
