Character education students

Johnston County students, Savannah Hicks, Makenzie Evans, and Juan Padron-Gutierrez, Catherine Bennett, Douglas Lee, Joshua McCullers were honored at a recently school board meeting for their sense of fairness. The Character Education trait for February is "Fairness" which means treating all people equal.

American Indian Education parent meeting

Johnston County Schools, in coordination with JCS American Indian Education Parent Advisory Committee, will meet 7-8 p.m. March 25 at the A.G. Glenn Building, 501, S. Second St., Smithfield. American Indian parents are welcome at this informational meeting. Organizers plane to collect recommendations for program options and share information on the application process..

Johnston County Schools American Indian Education Program is applying for the 2013-14 Indian Education Formula Grant (Title VII of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act). If approved, Johnston County Schools will receive funds for supplemental services for Indian children. The services will be based on assessment of needs of the unique educational, language, and culturally related academic needs of the American Indian and Alaska Native students.
