Money for college

Johnston County Community Foundation Board of Directors is currently accepting applications for the Ernestine J. Williams Scholarship, according to board president Butch Scott.

Students can find eligibility requirements and download applications at http://www.nccommunityfoundation.org/.

The scholarship is for Johnston County public high school graduates who planned attend a 4-year or a 2-year college, community college or technical school next fall.

Scholarships are awarded based on the applicant’s academic performance, academic potential and financial need. The awards are renewable, Scott said. Scholarship applications are due by April 11.

Educators attend seminars

Several area educators recently attended seminars at the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching.

Catherine M. Smith of Clayton Middle School, Ann M. Cozzocrea of West Clayton Elementary School and Shannon L. Ferguson of West Johnston High School attended seminars at the center.

The center offers instructional programming designed to give teachers support and resources in a variety of subjects including environmental and biological sciences, technology, mathematics, communication, leadership and the arts and humanities.
