Cooper Elementary School is hosting its annual Run for the Rockets 5K Run/Walk fundraiser March 2. Registration starts at 7:30 a.m.
The one-mile fun run begins at 9 a.m. followed by the run/walk at 9:30 a.m. and the race route winds through Michner Hills subdivision, up Front Street and back to Fayetteville Street.
Registration for the 5K race is $25, for the 5K Health Walk is $20, the one mile Kid’s Walk is $10 and the Kid’s Dash is $5. Cooper Elementary students can participate for free. Contact Heather Moser at 919-333-2682 or Alison Wilson at 919-320-4207 to register. Mail payments to Cooper Elementary School PTA, Run for the Rockets, 849 N. Mial St., Clayton, NC 27520.
The PTA plans to use the money they earn to improve the educational experience of their students through the purchases of smart boards and other educational tools.
“As a Title One School, Cooper doesn’t have the same financial means coming into our PTA that some of the other local schools do,” said Heather Moser, the Cooper Elementary 5K Co-Chairperson. “Parents and teachers do all they can for the students, but events like the 5K are important for our school getting some of the extras that enhance the child’s educational experience.”
The PTA hopes to raise $10,000 from the race.
