The 2013 Johnston County Easter Invitational prep baseball tournament will be held March 30 until April 2 at South Johnston High School’s Bruce Coats Field. The field will feature Johnston County regulars Clayton, Smithfield-Selma, Cleveland, Corinth Holders and host South Johnston.
Middle Creek, the defending 4A state champion and the defending event champion, will face South Johnston in a first round game on Saturday, March 30 at 7:30 p.m. Other entries in the tournament are Harnett Central and Hobbton.
First round games begin at noon on Saturday with Cleveland meeting Harnett Central, followed by Clayton taking on Hobbton, a squad now led by former SSS coach Mike Joyner. The home run derby featuring one player from each school will follow that game at 4 with Corinth Holders and Smithfield-Selma meeting at 5:30.
Second round games are on Monday with consolation games at noon and 2:30 and the semifinals at 5 and 7:30. The Central-Cleveland winner meets Hobbton-Clayton in the first semi, followed by the Corinth Holders-SSS and Middle Creek-South winners at 7:30.
Tuesday’s schedule also begins at noon with the championship game set for 7:30.
