ARCHER LODGE — Forming a new town takes a lot of work. That’s why government leaders are putting out a call for volunteers to help shape the standards that will benefit residents for generations to come.
Over a dozen advisors are needed to serve as part of a steering community for the town’s 2030 Comprehensive Land Use Plan. Officials are seeking representatives from diverse backgrounds who share a common interest in the growth of Archer Lodge.
“We are hoping to have local citizens and community leaders help to create a future vision for land development practices in town,” said Mayor Mike Gordon.
Residency in Archer Lodge is not required. Gordon said he would like to see potential candidates apply who represent the local business community, citizens with a special interest in community relations or history, land developers and county employees. Members of the town council, parks and recreation and community center will also be involved in the planning process.
“We want to include community members who cover a broad spectrum of knowledge and get their expertise,” he said. “We appreciate different opinions. The more heads we can get together the better this is going to be.”
Gordon estimates it will take at least a year for the committee to compose a wish list for future improvement. Those items could contain possibilities of development in neighborhoods, new restaurants, doctor offices and businesses. Members can expect to meet one evening a month.
“This is definitely a process you can’t rush,” Gordon said. “It’s important to this town because we are brand new. We hope to develop things that the residents of Archer Lodge will be proud of. We want options that can be enjoyed and a benefit to families.”
An application is now available on the town’s website at townofarcherlodge.com.
Gordon also noted the town is still seeking to fill a vacancy on the Planning Board. The position will serve a three-year term ending Dec. 31, 2015. The committee typically meets once a month but special projects may require meeting twice a month.
