WENDELL — Corinth Holders freshman Lydia Davis didn’t expect to win a state championship in her first N.C. high school state meet, but she was certainly please that her performance warranted the small varsity team all-around individual championship.
Davis finished with a score of 38.95.
“It was exciting to get to compete with all the other gymnasts, being a freshman and being able to win was a great feeling,” said Davis, a Level IX gymnast. “I hit most of my score goals and didn’t really have a goal for a finishing position.”
Her scores of 9.8 on the uneven bars and 9.75 on the vault gave her the state titles in those individual events as well. She received a 9.75 on the balance beam and a 9.65 on her floor exercises.
Corinth Holders was fifth in the team standings. Junior Emmalyn Hicks and freshman Lauren Boyd also contributed to the Pirates’ win.
