Christmas around the world
The first graders at River Dell Elementary increased their global awareness during a three-day “Christmas around the world” unit study just before the Christmas holidays. Each of the seven-first grade teachers selected a country and presented a lesson to each class. Students traveled with their “passports” to Italy, Germany, the Philippines, Holland, Mexico, Sweden, and England.
While visiting each country, students learned its location, heard a holiday story about its traditions and customs, made a craft, and ate a special snack from that region.
Polenta fights diabetes
The Polenta Elementary School Student Council recently held a fundraiser for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Students donated their spare change and got a paper sneaker with the student’s name on it. Each sneaker was displayed on the school bulletin board. Students raised $6,154.
