The Johnston County Branch NAACP will host a prayer breakfast in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Jan.19. The 8 a.m. breakfast is at South Smithfield Elementary School, 201 W. Fundraiser
The Partnership for Children of Johnston County is holding its annual Clayton Steakhouse fundraiser Feb. 4 at the Clayton Steakhouse, 307 E. Main St. in downtown Clayton. • The Democratic Women of Johnston County will meet at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 17 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 218 S. Second St., Smithfield. This meeting will include a review of volunteer activities from 2012 and plans for organizing volunteers in 2014.

• Johnston-Lee-Harnett Community Action, Inc., is conducting free financial literacy workshops Jan. 16, 23 and 24. The 3 p.m. Jan. 16 workshop is titled “Your own home” and the 3 p.m. Jan. 23 workshop is titled “Pay yourself first.” The last workshop at 10 a.m. Jan.24 is titled “Income tax tips.” All workshops are at 1102 Massey, Smithfield.
