Corinth Holders squads win league swim meet
Corinth Holders’ boys and girls swim teams dominated the first Northern Carolina 2A Conference meet of the season on Jan. 4, winning 21 of the 24 races in the meet.
The boys team from Corinth Holders won 11 events, including all three relays. Pirate swimmers Connor Blandford (200-yard free and 100 backstroke), Nolan Hopkins (200 individual medley relay and 100 free) and Cody Beamer (50 free and 100 breaststroke) all won two races each. Bryce Sherrill was the winner in the 100 butterfly.
Beamer, Blandford, Hopkins and Sherrill made up the winning 200 free relay. Neal Quinn, Chris Carter, Beamer and Sherrill were on the 200 medley relay and Hopkins, Blandford, Beamer and Quinn prevailed in the 400 free relay.
The Pirate girls team won 10 events, including the 200 medley relay and the 400 free relay.
Individual winners for Corinth Holders were Stephanie Grandin (50 and 200 free), Micheala Carter (200 individual medley and 100 butterfly), Lauren Bunting (100 and 500 free) and Amanda Knickerbocker (100 backstroke).
Knickerbocker, Grandin, Bunting and Michaela Carter made up the winning relay teams as well.
Corinth Holders also competed in an area meet on Dec. 17 against 4A schools Wake Forest Heritage, Wakefield and Wake Forest. The boys team finished second behind Heritage and were second in seven of 12 races. Blandford, Hopkins and Beamer were individual runners up, while the 200 and 400 free relay teams also finished second.
The Pirate girls team finished third in their meet. Michaela Carter won the 50 and 100 free races, while Grandin was third in the breaststroke and Gabbi Carter took third in the 500.
Corinth area youth sports sign-ups
Corinth Community Recreation Pirates will hold registration for youth baseball, softball and T-Ball from 9 a.m. until noon on Saturdays from Jan. 26 until Feb. 16 in the Corinth-Holders Elementary School gym lobby. T-Ball is for ages 5-6 and is $40 per player or $35 for each sibling. Baseball and softball is for ages 7 and up and costs $60 for the first child or $50 for siblings.
