The Johnston County Heritage Center’s annual Contributing Patrons Appreciation Banquet is Jan. 17 and the night’s theme is “1913 – The Way It Was A Hundred Years Ago.”

The evening’s program will take a look back at what was going on in Johnston County in 1913. The narrator is radio personality Ned Attayek. Attayek, who’s been associated with Capital Broadcasting Co. for more than 30 years grew up in Selma and now lives in Smithfield.

The program will also include cameo appearances by a few Johnston County “spirits” from 100 years ago.

The annual banquet is also a time to say thanks to numerous volunteers who help the Heritage Center serve the public in various ways throughout the year, according to Heritage Center spokesman Wingate Lassiter.

To become eligible to attend the dinner as a Contributing Patron of the Heritage Center a contribution must contribute at least $50. Last year’s dinner helped raise $24,850 to support the work of the Heritage Center, Lassiter said.
