Garner High youth cheer clinic is Saturday
The Garner High School varsity cheerleaders will host a cheer clinic for ages 5-13 on Saturday, Jan. 5 at the high school. Participants will learn cheers, jumps, chants and a dance and perform at an upcoming Garner High basketball game. The cost is $25 for those who pre-register or $30 at the door. Preregister by Dec. 31. The cost includes a T-shirt, cheer bow, a photo with the Garner cheerleaders and snacks during the clinic. Purpose Driven Baseball Camp set
The Sixth Annual Purpose Driven Baseball Camp for players and coaches will be held Saturday, Jan. 19, at Clayton High School. The camp runs from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. The camp staff will include more than a dozen current college or pro players and coaches, including Trot Nixon, Adam Warren, Chris Archer, Corey Lee and more. Narron Family Baseball Clinic is Jan. 5
The 2013 Narron Family Free Baseball Clinic for Seventh Graders will be held on Saturday, Jan. 5 in the Smithfield-Selma High School gymnasium. Registration begins at 9 a.m. The seventh grade marks the first year players can tryout for their school teams and is a divider between youth leagues and higher kill levels of amateur play. The clinic offers skill instruction from an all-professional staff led by Richard "Rooster" Narron (a former all-American catcher at ECU), Johnny Narron (current hitting coach for the Milwaukee Brewers) and Jerry Narron (bench coach of the Brewers) and several others. Skill sessions will cover hitting, pitching, catching, base running, infield play and outfield play. Other instructors include Clayton native and Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Chris Archer, Jerry Sands, an outfielder with the Boston Red Sox, Sam Narron, a pitching coach with the Washington Nationals organization, Connor Narron, an infielder in the Baltimore Orioles organization, Walker Gourley, a infielder/catcher with the Pittsburgh Pirates organization, and Rob Wooten, a pitcher with the Milwaukee Brewers organization. Whitfield Baseball Clinic
The 41st annual George Whitfield Baseball Clinic will be held Jan. 12 at Goldsboro High School. The clinic is open to all players from Little League through high school, and all coaches at any level are welcome. Ron Polk, the assistant baseball coach at the University of Alabama-Birmingham, will be the kickoff speaker, followed by Dr. Chris Hasty and Trey Mooring, who will speak on injury prevention for today’s baseball players. Other topics include recruiting, practice organization, pitching, catching, outfield play, infield play, base running and hitting. The camp staff includes a regional all-star roster of coaches from the professional, college and high school ranks. Advance registration is $60 per person (including lunch) or $50 per person for groups of six or more. Registration on the day of the clinic is $70 per person. Players 15 years of age and under may have their fathers attend for free (lunch is $7 for those fathers).
