Letter: What constitutes fairness?

Published: December 29, 2012

I am personally sick and tired of hearing about “fairness.” I have yet to hear one politician, leader or anyone else tell us what constitutes a “fair share.” How is it calculated? How do they determine that someone isn’t paying their “fair share”?

Since the turn of the 20th century, demagogues like Roosevelt, Wilson, LBJ and now Obama have used this divisive concept to push through programs that have no basis in the Constitution. They have sough to expand the power of government and convince citizens to willingly surrender their liberty. They have created a dependent underclass that is guaranteed to vote to keep the gravy train running. They have convinced people that they are entitled to the goods of their neighbors, that people cannot care for themselves and in fact shouldn’t have to. It is time to wake up and demand that the government stop the runaway spending and get back to a government in line with the Constitution. If not, in the words of the declaration, the citizens have a duty to replace that government.
