Recently students at Riverwood Elementary School worked on the "Wall of Honor." This is a large bulletin board at the entrance to the school that features names of local military veterans. This wall honors the service these men and women have given to their country. From left, Cooper Tharp, Stephen Harrington, Shelby Blair, and Gabrielle Grant helped assemble the bricks together so that they wouldn't have to staple 500 plus bricks on the board. Some of the students who worked on the wall currently have relatives in the military.
Students paying for Ugandan well
East Clayton Elementary School’s character trait for December is compassion. And, Lauren Inkrott is known for her compassion, notes Amanda H. Allen, a counselor at East Clayton.
Allen says Lauren went out into her community to raise money for East Clayton’s partner school in Uganda. Friend’s World Central Primary School Wakiso’s well recently went dry. When the East Clayton Student Government Association and Green Kids Club learned a new tank would cost $2,500 the children worked to raise funds for a water tank. A new tank means the Ugandan students at the partner school don’t have to walk miles daily to get fresh water.
Lauren raised more than $120. East Clayton is still raising money for the Uganda Water Tank Project and they still need more than $2,000 to reach their goal. To get involved or make a contribution, contact Amanda Allen at 919-550-5311 or AmandaAllen@johnston.k12.nc.us.
