Letter: Christmas deal repulses reader

Christmas deal repulses reader

I just read with disgust and horror, the article in the December 19th Clayton News-Star “Wrap up your Christmas list.” The collaboration of Main Street Jewelers and Trigger Happy Guns is appalling and offensive to me as a resident of Clayton.

How anyone can equate a beautiful piece of jewelry and a killing machine is beyond me and I just can’t comprehend it. I moved to Clayton a few months ago to retire to a nice community (Riverwood) which I thought had a sense of family and values. After this article, I am having second thoughts. Considering what has just happened in Newtown, CT I find this all too much to take in.

I hope when the man who purchased the engagement ring for his fiancé, that every time they both look at the ring, they think of the 20 precious children and 6 adults that were killed by a gun that his man just had to have as he thought it was a bargain to get a diamond and a gun for the price of one. The comment from Nick DeLuca, owner of Trigger Happy Guns and Accessories stating that both husband and wife win, is ludicrous beyond words! Both Trigger Happy Guns and Main Street Jewelers should take a long look within themselves.

I am a firm believer of supporting the local community, but after this article I will not in any shape or form support Clayton. Clayton News-Star should have thought better than to run an article like this. This is a prime example of what is wrong with America today.
