It’s been 50 years since the Corinth-Holders High School class of 1962 graduated. Recently, most of the surviving classmates and their spouses spent the day at Shelton and Judy Wall Jones’ farm in Archer Lodge to celebrate this milestone.

They made a day of it starting with a breakfast of ham biscuits, jellies, jams and fresh fruit. The classmates enjoyed games and activities and caught up on what had happened in each other’s lives since 1962. As the day progressed, more classmates joined them and by the evening there were 21 members of the original 30-member class along with their spouses for a barbecue pork and chicken dinner. Classmates Oliver Wall and Ray Whitley provided the meal.

Before dinner, Judy Wall Jones welcomed everyone and Shelton Jones led the invocation and blessing.

Charles Creech put together a memory book with a page for each class member with photos of the classmate’s family - children, grandchildren, etc. and even pets. There was even a memorabilia table set up with yearbooks, past reunion pictures books, and letters and notes from former teachers.

The former classmates also had a memorial ceremony to honor deceased classmates. They displayed a framed photograph of each deceased member and lit a candle for that classmate.

With every class reunion there is some business that has to be dispensed with. This year, class president Elnathan Brown presided over the short business session. The class voted to meet again in three years and expressed interest in returning to the Jones’ Farm in Archer Lodge.

Katie Hood Lewis gave a financial report and announced that class members had collected $1,000 for a scholarship. The scholarship will go to a deserving member of the first graduating class at the new Corinth Holders High School (note that the original high school name was hyphenated but the new school name is not). The alumni Service scholarship will be based on academics and service to the school and the community. Members of the 1962 class will present this scholarship to the winner at a school awards program in May.

Planning committee members included Katie Hood Lewis, Oliver Wall, Judy Wall Jones, Charles Creech, Elnathan Brown, Vernon Creech, Maxine Beasley, Sylvia Earp Hocutt, Jane Boykin Strickland and Saundra Green Freeman.
