Christmas celebration – Sunday, Nov. 25, at the Archer Lodge Community Center, 14009 Buffalo Road. This year’s event will begin with a parade at 3:30 p.m. Starting at 4 p.m., children may ride a train, write letters to Santa, make crafts, have their faces painted and sit with Santa for photos. (Parents should bring a camera.) A Yule program with a live nativity will start at 5:45. Afterward, the community will light its Christmas tree.
“The Magic of Christmas,” a variety show, is scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18, in the W.J. Barefoot Auditorium in the Benson Municipal Building, 303 E. Church St., Benson. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children 8 and younger.
Tree lighting and Christmas parade – Friday, Dec. 7, on Main Street. The tree lighting, with entertainment, is scheduled for 6 p.m. The parade will step off at 6:45. Stores will be open for shopping, and civic groups and church will hand out free items.
Christmas Village and Tree Lighting – 6-8:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, on Main Street. The event will feature music, business open houses, a live nativity at 120 E. Main St. and the tree lighting on the Town Square. Also, Santa Claus will hear Christmas wishes from 6 to 6:45 p.m. at 439 E. A holiday art and home tour is scheduled from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, in Clayton’s Glen Laurel subdivision. Ten artists will display and sell their works in nine homes. The tour will begin at the Neuse Golf Clubhouse, 918 Birkdale Drive., where maps will be available. The homes on the tour are at 204 Neuse Ridge Drive, 410 Neuse Ridge Drive, 419 Neuse Ridge Drive, 204 Parkridge Drive, 513 Parkridge Drive, 201 Hein Drive, 113 LaFoy Drive, 126 Riverglade Drive and 145 Townsend Drive. Lighting ceremony – 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26, at Princeton Baptist Church, 211 S. Pearl St. The event will take place on the church’s front steps. In case of rain, it will move indoors. The princeton Woman’s Club will serve hot chocolate and apple cider.

The town of Smithfield will light its Christmas tree at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, at the corner of Third and Market streets. The event will feature hot chocolate, entertainment and a visit from Santa Claus.

Festival of Trees
The ninth annual Festival of Trees will take place Nov. 29 through Dec. 5 at the Johnston Medical Mall, 514 N. Bright Leaf Blvd., Smithfield. Hours are 6-8 p.m. Nov. 29, 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Nov. 30, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Dec. 1, 1-5 p.m. Dec. 2 and 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Dec. 3-5. Each day will offer entertainment. Admission is free.
