At least 100 brave men decked out in women’s shoes recently raised $35,000 at the Walk the Trail in Her Shoes fundraiser.

The October 13 event at the walking trail on the Johnston Health Smithfield campus drew local businessmen, male community leaders, and young adults who walked in women’s shoes. They were urged on by cheerleaders who encourage the walkers to complete the trail.

Kyle McDermott and the Johnston County Department of Social Services earned the Stiletto Spirit Awards for raising the most funds for the Walk. Johnny Sharpe earned the Red Carpet Heels Award as the most photogenic on the red carpet. John Long and Jerry Jones won the Finish Line Flats Awards for being the last in line to complete the walk.

“We are tremendously grateful to the community members, who through their personal involvement and financial contributions, stepped out against domestic violence and in support of Harbor’s programs and families. The sponsors and walkers enabled Harbor to have its most successful Walk the Trail in Her Shoes, one of Harbor’s two major annual fundraising events,” said Angie Lock, Chairwoman, Harbor Board of Directors.
