CLAYTON -- Clayton High School student Daniel Anthony Laboy, Jr., 18, was arrested Wednesday after turning himself in at the Johnston County Sheriff’s office.
Laboy was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, said Captain A.C. Strickland. He is being held in Johnston County Jail under a $40,000 bond.
Strickland said the sheriff’s office had been investigating the incident, which occurred August 25 at Blazing Saddle, a club on Barnes Lake Road between N.C. 39 and N.C. 222 in Middlesex. Laboy allegedly shot 17-year-old Raheem Foye in the face.
For now, authorities aren’t sure what caused the shooting.
“We don’t know a motive,” Strickland said.
As for the victim, Strickland said Foye is recovering from the gunshot wound.
Strickland said he wasn’t sure whether Blazing Saddle is a licensed bar with a liquor license, and no charges were brought against the bar owners for having two teenagers inside the club.
Tracey Peedin Jones, public information officer for Johnston County Schools, confirmed that Laboy is a senior at Clayton High School. She could not, however, comment on any disciplinary actions that the school might take.
“At this time, it is in the hands of law enforcement to investigate,” Peedin Jones said.
