Marketplace has something for everyone

Since Unique Boutiques and Marketplace opened in March, it has been host to numerous events sponsored by its onsite food vendors.

Some upcoming events include a “Sip N Shop” from 7 to 9 p.m. Sept. 28. There is an outdoor crafts fair planned for Oct. 13, and a Halloween party with trick-or-treats 7-9 p.m. Oct. 26.

Owner Christy Kenyon says she decided to open a “unique shopping place” to give vendors and other small-business owners a place to operate a full-time storefront with minimal overhead. Shoppers can find a range of goods, all offered by local small-business owners.

Kenyon says she is part a long line of successful family-owned and -operated small businesses. She knew retail was in her blood but also knew the struggles a traditional retail store can have. After taking part in many craft fairs, flea markets and other events, Kenyon decided to open her own co-op retail store.

Unique Boutiques and Marketplace offers handmade wreaths, fashion accessories, quilted items, memorabilia, woodworking, home decor, gifts and North Carolina food products.

Unique Boutiques and Marketplace is at 21 Anna Drive, Clayton. Store hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Saturday. For more information, call 919-359-8688.
