Members of the North Carolina Emergency Reserves’ Johnston County unit recently completed an extensive course on land navigation.

Unit members traveled to Cumberland County where they joined NCER reservists from units across the state to complete the three-day course, according to Col. Dave Tuttle, the unit’s public information officer.

Tuttle said members of Alpha and Charlie companies of the 381st Battalion of the group’s 38th Regiment participated. Maj. Nancy Frietag and Sgt. Tommy Price, both of Princeton were joined by Cpt. Jack Shearer from Clayton for the training. Shearer is the regiment’s operations officer. Tuttle, also a Johnston County resident and regiment commander, was the camp commandant for this exercise.

The North Carolina Emergency Reserves is a statewide all-volunteer disaster-response corps headquartered near Fort Bragg in Fayetteville. Any state resident who is at least 18 and does not have any felony convictions can become a reservist.
