Chorus performance

The Johnston County Schools’ annual All County Chorus performance is 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25 at West Johnston High.

Democrats meet

•  The Johnston County Democratic Party Executive Committee meets 6:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 27 at the MDS Center, Skyland Drive off N.C. 210 in Smithfield. Party officers, auxiliary and precinct officers and elected officials are encouraged to attend. For information or directions, call 550-4186.

•  The Democratic Women of Johnston County meet Feb. 23 at 6:30 p.m. in the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church fellowship hall on South Second Street, Smithfield. Attendees are encouraged to bring items to support the group’s backpack program.

Black History Month events

•  The Cooper Heritage Alumni and Friends Association are honoring the 1963 State Championship basketball team of William Mason Cooper High School at a Black History Celebration luncheon noon Saturday, Feb. 25 at the American Legion Building in Clayton. •  Johnston Community College is hosting Black History Month events throughout the month. Events are free and open to the public. For more details, please contact Della McMillian at 464-2282 or Jane K. Robbins at 464-2380.

•  A Black Business Expo is 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22 in the lobby of the Paul A. Johnston Auditorium. Local businesses and health professionals will offer information about their products and services. To reserve a space for this event, call Della McMillian, 464-2282 or Jane K. •  The Johnston County Heritage Center’s Black History Committee is paying tribute to African-American Masonic lodges and Eastern Star chapters that have served Johnstonians for more than a century. The Johnston County Heritage Center, in the former headquarters building of First Citizens Bank in Smithfield, is open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Saturday.
