SMITHFIELD -- Neuse Charter is making preparations for homecoming. Almost 100 student, parents, booster club members, faculty and hung “Welcome Home” ribbons on light posts, painted Cougar Blue paws on the school’s driveway and walkway to the Dr. Patricia Brady Harris Gymnasium, trimmed grass and landscaped the school’s newly installed entry sign.
All of this work to get ready for homecoming. NC has a reputation as a “true community school where families and volunteers play an integral part in the school’s day-to-day operation,” writes Stenson Lee, a spokesperson for the school.
participants braved stormy weather as they prepared the campus for the week’s festivities. Establishing traditions is an important priority for the N.C.S. academic and athletic community. Academically, N.C.S. has earned an Honor School of Excellence rating for the last two years by the State of North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. Athletically, N.C.S. offers the following sports: Boys and Girls Soccer, Volleyball, Boys and Girls Basketball, Boys and Girls Golf, Baseball, Softball and Boys and Girls Track and Field. More sports will be added in subsequent years. The middle school teams compete in the Eastern North Carolina Middle School Conference (ENCMSC). For the upcoming realignment, the N.C.S. Cougar high school teams have been designated 1-A by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA).
