Motorcycle wreck
Another accident occurred at the intersection of Barber Mill Road and North Lombard Street at West Clayton Elementary, but it wasn’t during carpool time.
At 7:58 p.m., Jan. 26, Lisa Marie Caudill, 38, of Lins Place, Clayton, drivng a 2007 Dodge SUV, failed to yield the right of way when making a left turn on Barber Mill Road from N. Lombard Street, striking a motorcycle head on.
Joseph Michael Torres, 28, of Cricket Hollow Run in Clayton, was riding a 1973 Harley Davidson heading north on Lombard when Caudill struck him.
Torres was transported from the scene with serious (disabling) injuries to WakeMed by Clayton Area EMS, according to police. Caudill declined medical transport. Both vehicles’ damage is estimated at $8,000.
Neither vehicle was speeding when the accident took place. Caudill was only going 7 miles per hour on the left turn and the Harley was traveling at 35 mph.
At impact, the Harley was traveling at 24 miles per hour, leaving 95 feet of tire impressions and traveling 18 feet from the site of initial accident. Caudill was still traveling at 7 mph and mostly stopped when she hit the motorcycle.
“The crash data is still being reviewed and a decision has yet to be made regarding any charges,” Allen said.
As of Feb. 2, Torres was still at WakeMed and listed in good condition. The report does not state whether Torres was “thrown” from the bike, but Allen concedes that that often occurs in such crashes.
Minors harassment
Two apparently unrelated calls from Commodore Street last week reported adults verbally harassing minors.
At 11:04 p.m. Jan. 23, Tamalisha Brewer reported non-physical harassment toward a minor at her home at 516 Commodore Street.
At 9:26 p.m. on Jan. 23, Imika Adell Barnes of 634 Commodore Street reported non-physical harassment of a minor at her home.
The minors in question are 13 and 15.
No one was arrested, and no further investigation has been conducted.
Police chase down suspect
A suspicious person was apprehended at 11:03 p.m. Jan. 24 in the parking lot of 10105 U.S.70 Business West when he fled from Off. J.L. Bloodworth.
“Bloodworth was questioning a suspicious person . . . when a computer records check showed that the man was wanted for multiple felony charges in another jurisdiction,” said Clayton Police Chief Glen Allen.
According to reports, Robert Daniel Elliott, 21, of Selma, had outstanding charges of burglary and robbery.
Allen said Elliott tried to run from Bloodworth, who followed up and caught him. According to reports, Elliott continued to fight Bloodworth and was slightly injured while being taken into custody.
Elliott was taken to Johnston County Jail and held in lieu of a $100,500 secure bond with charges of felony burglary, felony larceny in Wilson’s Mills, first-degree trespass, and resisting arrest.
