Goat producers meet

Johnston County Goat Producer's Association is having a dinner and meeting 6:30 p.m. Feb. 13 in the Johnston County Agriculture Center auditorium, 2736 N.C. 210 in Smithfield. The featured speaker is Ben Carpenter, Livestock Marketing Specialist with the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. Attendees must register by Feb.10 by calling the Johnston County Extension Office 989-5380 or email Livestock Agent Dan Wells at dgwells@ncsu.edu.

Valentine's Ball

Harbor of Johnston County's annual Valentine's Ball 6-10 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11 at the Preston Woodall House in Benson. Tickets are $125 per person. The evening includes cocktails, a four-course dinner, dancing to "The Upbeats" and a silent auction. Proceeds support Harbor's shelter and transitional housing for victims and survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, or rape. For tickets call 938-3566 or visit harborshelter.org.

Learn to garden

Learn to garden at a workshop offered 6:30-830 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8 at the Arboretum Mobile Unit. Registration is $15.This workshop is designed for novice gardeners and will cover the important plant information needed for to have a dream garden.

There is Square Foot and Container Garden workshop at the Arboretum Mobile Unit 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13. Registration is $15. This hands-on class covers the various ways to grow vegetables in small spaces. Call Lin Frye 209-2052 or Minda Daughtry 209-2184 to reserve a space.

CHICKS Civitan food drive

The CHICKS Civitan food drive is Feb. 9-29. Donate non-perishable foods for the Clayton Area Ministries food pantry. Drop off donations at Capital Bank, 12701 U.S. 70 West; Crescent Bank, 315 East Main Street; Family Insurance, 266 Pritchard Road and 50-12 Neuse River Parkway; Tickled Pink Salon, 314 West Main St. and the UPS Store, 901 Town Centre Blvd. There's a Food Drive Kickoff at the Laugh Out Loud Comedy Club 7:30 p.m. Feb. 9. Youth Summit

0rganizers of the annual Wake and Johnston County Youth summit are looking for participants for the summit. The event is 8:30-2 p.m. Tuesday, March 6. Organizers are accepting registration from 20 kids per agency or organization. Youths 14-21 can attend the summit at Wake Technical Community College, Student Services Building, 9101 Fayetteville Road in Raleigh. Visit snipurl/21t2ww6 to register. Fundraisers

The West Clayton Elementary PTA is holding s Spaghetti for Smartboards dinner 5:30-7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13 in the Bulldog Cafe. Clayton Steakhouse is sponsoring this event and proceeds go directly to school PTA to purchase additional Smartboards. Dinner includes bread and salad with drinks and dessert. Advance tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for kids. Price at the door is $7 and $4.

The Mental Health Association in Johnston County is hosting a flapjack fundraiser 8-10 a.m. Saturday Feb. 18 at Applebee's 1260 N. Brightleaf Blvd in Smithfield. Proceeds benefit the Health Minds/Healthy Children program and help fund family support groups. For tickets or to volunteer call Marie Dodson, 934-0311.

JCC shows

Comedian Leanne Morgan, performance is 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11. Adults are $20 in advance or $22.50 at the door. Morgan's style of comedy combines her southern charm and hilarious story telling about her life.

NLT production

The Neuse Little Theatre of Smithfield presents "The Dixie Swim Club" a comedy about five Southern women, whose friendships began in college. The women get together every August to recharge those relationships. Written by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten and directed by Ruth Mills, performances are 8 p.m. Feb.10, 11, 17 and 18. Restore is moving

The Habitat for Humanity ReStore is moving Feb. 28 to 136 Clayton Commerce Center, (known as the Clayton Spinning Plant) behind the post office. ReStore is open Fridays 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and Saturdays 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Call 550-1879 for directions.

NAACP voter campaign

Johnston County NAACP is holding Get Out The Vote campaign events including forums where candidates and elected officials can speak about their stand on current issues. The organization wants volunteers and organizers to help with their campaign. Call 285-9654 or email pr@jcncaacp.info.

Art class

The JCPAADD meetings, the Eye of the Eagle Art Studio is holding a "Sculpty Class" for children. This is a hands-on art class working with clay and other art therapies. Call Mary Beth, 401-524-4799 for details.

Mommy & Me program

Registration for the Jumpin' Jax Mommy & Me Program is now open. This is a weekly instructor lead, fun and fitness class for parents and children, 19 months to three-years-old. The new semester starts Jan. 23. Call 772-5546 or go to jumpinjkids.com for more details.

Support group

The Johnston County Parent Association for ADD, a support group for parents of children with ADHD/ADD meets the first and third Thursdays of each month from 7 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. at the Clayton Chamber of Commerce. Call Mary Beth at 553-6352 or 401-524-4799 for more information.

Court advocates needed

Harbor, Inc., needs volunteer court advocates who can assist the victim's advocate and victims of domestic violence and sexual assault at the Johnston County Courthouse in Smithfield. Volunteers will be trained and work under the direction of Harbor's victim advocate. Spanish speaking volunteers are especially needed. Some knowledge of the criminal justice system is helpful.
