Teens get ready for ball

Local teens gathered recently for a workshop sponsored by the National Association of University Women Clayton Branch. Participants got information about the organization's annual Scholarship Ball.

The purpose of the workshop was to familiarize parents, contestants and escorts with steps they need to take to prepare for the annual Green and White Scholarship Ball. The annual ball is 6 p.m. Saturday, April 28 at Clayton Middle School. Contestants sell ball tickets and compete for scholarships.

Yarn and Needle Club meets

A brand new club, the Clayton Yarn and Needle Club, will have its first meeting on7-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9 at the Hocutt Ellington Memorial Library (the Clayton public library) on 100 S. Church St. in Clayton. Anyone who knits, crochets, or spins is welcome to attend regardless of skill level. This is an informal gathering where people can meet other yarn enthusiasts in the area and work on their latest project. The club will meet every second Thursday of the month from 7-8 p.m. in the library's meeting room. For information contact Vicki Brueck at 637-9966 or vmbrueck@hotmail.com.

Felicia book club meets

Felicia book club members recently go together for their January meeting. Club President Belle Allen presided over the meeting. Th meeting topic focused on North Carolina trivia. Mary Rose Colavito retold the story of The Lost Colony, known as one of history's most astonishing unsolved mysteries. Vice President and Membership Committee Chairperson, Duba Coats addressed new business items with the group. Concluding the business, Belle invited club members into the dining room where they enjoyed a variety of refreshments. The February meeting will at The Morning Glory Inn.
