    The 8th Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training academy was held Oct. 20-24 by Johnston County Mental Health Center and Johnston Community College. Since the fall of 2011, 78 people have become certified CIT officers, 63 of them from Johnston County.

    Makel McClain and Sie-chieh Bonwiendyu Redd, Jr. recently served as pages in the N.C. Senate. McClain is the son of Larry and Anitra McClain of Garner, and was sponsored by Senator Angela Bryant. Redd is the son of Siechieh and Kendra Redd of Garner, and was sponsored by Senator Daniel Blue.

    Aviation Boatswain Mate Tyndal K. Nelson recently graduated from Navy boot camp. Tyndal was born in Champaign, Illinois, the daughter of Walter and Kimberly Nelson, and moved to Garner with her family when she was 2.
